Seventeenth Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries

The Seventeenth Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries, known as the GG seminar, was hosted by UNAFEI from 13 to 15 December 2023. The theme of the seminar was “Protecting Judges, Prosecutors and Law Enforcement Officials from Undue Interference Including Bribery”.

There were nineteen participants, who are prosecutors or officers of anti-corruption institutes etc., from nine ASEAN countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam) and Timor-Leste. Ms. Annika Wythes, the Regional Anti-Corruption Adviser for Southeast Asia and the Pacific in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, made a lecture on the theme from an international viewpoint.

Each participating country made a presentation regarding the systems and practices in each country aimed toward the elimination of undue influence in the criminal justice system. Through the presentations, challenges and best practices were shared among the participants. The presentations were very useful to understand systems and the current situation in each country. The seminar was concluded by the presentation and adoption of the Chair’s Summary.
