UNAFEI functions as an international information centre for crime prevention and the treatment of offenders, keeping close contact with the United Nations.
The institute regularly researches and surveys regional crime trends and criminal justice systems mainly in the Asia and Pacific Region. Additionally, UNAFEI collaborates in the research activities of its sister institutes, UNAFEI alumni associations and overseas ACPF afiliates. These results are printed in both English and Japanese and distributed to concerned nations and agencies.
